The microscope that all the fuss has been about… what an amazing day!

We were all made very welcome by the theatre staff and I must admit it was nice to spend time in this room for once and be able to walk out instead of getting a ride on one of the trolleys!

Thanks so much to Duncan P. Leatherdale for doing the story and also to the girls who came along to share in this momentous occasion. Read all about it in the Northern Echo by clicking on the link below…

On Friday February 1st 2013, The Chyrelle Addams Cancer Support Trust presented The University Hospital of North Durham with a cheque for £10,300!

This money is for the repairs to the Surgical Microscope that is used in the complicated operations to remove tumours.

Without these repairs, only the surgeon carrying out the operation can see what is happening during surgery, but with the repairs, a live TV feed is transmitted to screens for other Surgical Staff and University Hospital Students! This ensures that nothing is missed and gives the students the opportunity to follow a procedure without actually carrying out any surgery!
